    The Chongqi Bridge is a river-crossing passage connecting Shanghai Municipality and Jiangsu Province, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River. It is a vital component of China's G40 Shanghai–Xi'an Expressway, an intercity corridor in the Yangtze River Delta expressway network plan, and the first expressway in Shanghai directly leading to Northern Jiangsu (Subei). The bridge's river-crossing section is 6.84 km long and 33.2 meters wide, featuring a双向 six-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 km/h. Its main bridge adopts a long-span variable-section continuous steel box girder with a main span of 185 meters, which was the longest span among similar bridge types in China at the time of its completion. The Chongqi Bridge was opened to traffic on December 24, 2011, and has been in service for over 10 years. It has now entered a stage where structural deterioration develops and performance degrades. Furthermore, due to its location at the Yangtze River estuary, where the surrounding environment is complex and the climate is changeable, certain durability-related deterioration has emerged in the bridge structure. Maintenance and repair of the main and approach bridge structures are therefore necessary to ensure the bridge's safety and durability.
